How to Demo Inwall Speakers
Buying inwall speakers online without being able to hear them is daunting to say the least.

Still, once you get them home, you still need to know how to demo speakers without installing them in fresh drywall at the expense of repairing the holes if you really don’t like them. This guide will show you how to demo your inwall speakers.
Step 1
First, we make a large sheet made of a firm material. In this example, a piece of melamine is used because of its durability. You can use a particle 5/8″ board, a 1/2″ wafter board, or a 1/2″ plywood. Then, you can create plates on the front so that you can make them for different sizes of speakers. You don’t have to go to those lengths for basic testing. Just cut a hole that is required by the speaker and install.
The board has to be large enough – at least 3 ft. x 5 ft. – to separate the sound waves from the front and the back so they don’t cancel out. If this happens, you won’t hear any bass from the woofer. Also, you don’t need to make a box to enclose your inwall speaker.
Step 2
Load the speakers in and listen.

Wall Speakers
Wall speakers are typically rectangular, but can be used in ceilings if desired. They are always less than 3 3/4" deep to accommodate 2x4 stud bays.
Ceiling Speakers
Ceiling speakers are typically round as they are easier to make "look good" in the ceiling without having to measure corners, like a rectangular type speaker. We use these in rear surround positions and "social" areas where we want the music to sound open and "everywhere".
